πŸ’» Platforms & Licenses

The InfoRapid KnowledgeBase Builder stands out due to its cross-platform availability and a fair, transparent pricing model. Unlike many other tools, the app avoids expensive monthly subscriptions and instead relies on an honest one-time purchase.

All versions of the software use the same underlying SQLite database format (.kdb). This makes your data 100% compatible across all platforms.

πŸ“± Available Platforms & App Stores

The standard app versions of the KnowledgeBase Builder are available for the following operating systems in their respective stores:

  • Windows: In the Microsoft Store (for Windows 8, 8.1, 10, and 11).
  • macOS: In the Apple Mac App Store (for macOS 10.12 or newer).
  • iOS / iPadOS: In the Apple App Store (for iPhones and iPads running iOS 11.4 or newer).
  • Android: In the Google Play Store as well as the Amazon Appstore.

⚠️ Important note on App Store licenses: The Apple, Google, and Microsoft App Stores are completely separate and do not offer joint license management. A purchase in the Google Play Store, for example, does not entitle you to a free download in the Apple App Store. If you want to use the app on devices with different operating systems (e.g., a Windows PC and an Apple iPad), the app must be purchased separately in the respective store.

Exception: If you own a newer Mac with an Apple Silicon processor (M1, M2, M3, M4, etc.), you can often install the iOS version on your Mac for free, provided you have already purchased it in the iOS App Store.

πŸ›’ Editions in Detail

Depending on your use case, different editions are available to choose from:

1. Lite Version (Android only)

The free Lite version is exclusively available for Android devices in the Google Play Store and is primarily intended for testing the app. On all other platforms, only paid full versions are available.

  • Limitation: It is limited to creating and editing exactly one single database file.
  • Advantage: Even within this single database, you can store millions of items and explore all essential features of the app at your own pace.

2. Full App Version (One-time purchase)

The full version removes the limitation of the Lite version. You can create and manage an unlimited number of knowledge bases. In the Windows App Store, you have the option to test the app for free for 5 days. The full version costs approximately 10 Euros in the stores and is the recommended, fastest option for individual users.

3. Professional Edition (Windows Desktop)

The Professional Edition is aimed at demanding users and teams. It costs 99 Euros and is obtained directly from the developer's website as a Windows Desktop application.

  • Multi-user capability: This version is multi-user capable. Multiple employees can work on the same knowledge base simultaneously.
  • Online duration: Diagrams uploaded to the internet with the Professional Edition can remain online for up to 400 days.
  • Technical note: This version is based on older browser control technology and may be slower in rendering than the Windows App version from the store.

4. Enterprise Edition (Corporate Solution)

The Enterprise Edition is designed for company-wide use.

  • Hosting: The software is installed directly on the company's own server as a PHP web application with an SQLite backend. This gives the company full control over all data.
  • Security: It enables secure login with a username and password.
  • Pricing: Prices start at 1,000 Euros net for up to 10 users.

5. Free Web Version

At inforapid.org, a free web application is available that runs directly in the browser on all platforms (including Linux) without installation.

  • Note on data deletion: Since server storage space is limited, inactive web accounts (without login) are automatically deleted after 3 months – including all stored data. Therefore, back up your databases regularly by downloading them locally.

πŸ”„ Cloud Synchronization & Cross-Platform Work

The InfoRapid KnowledgeBase Builder operates on the secure "Offline-First" principle. The app performs no automatic background synchronization and does not have central account management in the cloud.

Here is how you work cross-platform (e.g., between Windows and Android):

  1. Save your database file (.kdb) in a cloud directory of your choice (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, or Apple iCloud).
  2. Open this file on your other device via the corresponding cloud app.
  3. Manual Sync: If you make changes on one device, you must manually update the database on the other device via the menu item "Knowledge Base" -> "Reload".
